Easy Sourdough Bread

By The Petite Plantation - December 22, 2018

Although I try to eat Keto, I don't insist the rest of the family eating only the same food. But I do make homemade bread with a sourdough starter for our wild boys. If you are new to sourdough yourself and want to give it a whirl, I have an easy tutorial of how to start your own sourdough starter here.

Easy Sourdough Bread | Simply throw all the ingredients into a large bowl and combine well.
Sourdough bread is one of the oldest and most original form of leavened bread and the Egyptians were one of the first people to capture and use wild yeast to make bread. They were known as the  'Bread Eaters' because it was their primary source of food and was so popular, it was used as currency!

Easy Sourdough Bread | Be sure to pull flour from the sides of the bowl.
Making bread with a sourdough starter, rather than commercial active yeast you find in the grocery store, is easier to digest and therefore easier on your belly. And as the great Ancient Greek Physician was quoted nearly 2500 years ago, "All disease begins in the gut."

Easy Sourdough Bread | Ready for a second rise, the loaf is in a parchment paper lined loaf pan for easy clean up!
Anyway, this recipe is a delicious loaf and is easy for the beginner sourdough baker! I hope you enjoy it!

Easy Sourdough Bread

Ingredients

1/4 cup of active sourdough starter
3 cups of unbleached wheat flour
1 tsp of sea salt
1 1/3 cup of filtered water

Method

Throw all the ingredients into a large bowl.
Combine until mixed.
Pull dough from the sides of the bowl and oil the bowl.
Cover with a towel and leave in a warm place for 12 to 24 hours, or until doubled in size.
Feed your sourdough starter.
Once your dough has doubled in size, place on a well floured surface.
Pull the edge and fold over the dough over onto the middle of itself, starting 3 o'clock, then 9 o'clock. It should form a loaf or cylinder.
Flip the loaf of dough seam side down in a floured or parchment lined loaf pan.
Cover and let rise for 3 hours in a warm place.
After 3 hours, preheat oven to 375F.
Bake for 35 minutes.
Remove from oven and let it cool before eating.
Enjoy!
