Delicious and healthy granola balls or bars! |
If you have been following us on Instagram for any length of time you know we like to take off on an adventure every, single, weekend! We love to be spontaneous and hope to instil adventure into our children, but we usually end up hungry! I've tried making granola bars before and was left with a crumbly mess all over the car and the kids would still be hungry! The crumbly mess is probably still in the car, ain't no body got time for that!
After about a week feeling sluggish, and completely unmotivated in the kitchen, I pulled myself together and got to work! My first try at the recipe but that's all it needed!
These Homemade Healthy Granola Bars, they stick together! But they aren't too sticky, they are soft and chewy. There are lots of omegas, 7.5g of proteins, fibre and vitamins in these babies! Hell, they are chock FULL of healthy stuff!
And, if you purchase all your ingredients at a bulk foods store, you can make them without creating more household waste, which is something we all need to work on!
They are super easy to make! And I've added options for those who cannot have nuts, and a dairy substitute for the chocolate chips. You can switch up the seeds if you like, but keep the ratios all the same to get the consistency I was going for!
Easy and quick granola bars or balls! |
Throw all this in a bowl:
2 cups of Quick Oats
1/2 cup Sunflower Seed Butter, Peanut Butter, Almond Butter or Soy Peanut Butter
1/4 cup of Hulled Hemp Seeds
1/4 cup of Ground Flax Seed
1/4 cup of Chia Seeds
1/2 cup of Chocolate Chips, Carob Chips or Raisins
1/4 cup of Honey
Mix it up! Place in a baking dish lined with parchment paper and compress it with the back of a spoon. Chill in the freezer for 30 minutes, then slice in to bars or squares. You could also roll into balls before chilling if you prefer. Lately, we have been squishing them into silicone muffin cups which make a handy reusable container! Wrap them individually. We keep ours in the freezer, not sure why.. Then eat them!
